Our Charities

The Bankside Health Club is proud to support our two nominated charities for 2011, Breast Cancer Care & the National Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Over the course of the year we will be holding a series of events to raise both much needed funds as well as awareness for these two very worthwhile causes. We would love for as many of our members and non-members alike to get involved, so if you see anything you fancy please do let us know. We would also love to hear from you if you are carrying out any fundraising of your own.

Breast Cancer Care
www.breastcancercare.org.uk

Breast Cancer Care was founded in 1972 by Betty Westgate, four years after her own diagnosis with the disease. Their aim is to offer help and support to all those suffering from, or affected by Breast Cancer as well as promote issues surrounding Breast Cancer and encourage education and research.

Breast Cancer is now the most common cancer in the UK with around 125 women per day being diagnosed and 12,000 women per year dying from the disease.

It's not all bad news though, with the help of organisations such as Breast Cancer Care, 2 out of 3 women diagnosed with Breast Cancer will survive their disease beyond 20 years. This has been in no small part due to tireless campaigning on the issues surrounding awareness of Breast Cancer which has helped early detection rates rise considerably.

NSPCC

The N.S.P.C.C.'s vision is to bring an end to cruelty to children in the U.K. They campaign to change the law, provide Childline and the N.S.P.C.C. helpline, offer advice to adults and much much more. In this day and age it is unthinkable that there are children in our own communities who are facing unbearable cruelty. It is the absolute responsibility of each and every one of us to stand up and ensure that we protect vulnerable children in any way that we can.
